UPDATE: I reported in an old beer news post that Alabama citizens were lobbying for law that allows stronger beer to be sold in the state. Turns out the governor agreed and allowed the law to be passed. This will allow Alabama to sell beers with alcohol content up to 13.9%. Nice.

The Examiner reports about how Americans pay taxes on beer for their health care. I think this is ridiculous as there are already programs that pay for health care, it is just mismanaged money that is the problem.

InBev has found a buyer for Tsingtao beer stake. Apparently they found someone with stake in many of China’s industries to buy the 7.01% of their stake they wanted to sell. Good luck with that, China beer isn’t that good.

More state tax on beer, liquor and wine? Illinois legislative leaders are trying to raise the state’s tax on beer by 2.6 cents a six pack. They are also trying to legalize video poker machines. All this to fund construction, why don’t they finish one part of the construction before they start a new one or fix it the first time?

A longtime Cincinnati Red’s sponser, Burger Beer is returning to the market. They have announced that they will be able to brew the beer, under license, in Wisconsin. They say it will hit the market in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky and then eventually the rest of the upper Midwest.

The Huntsville Times reports that people in Alabama are lobbying to have the state allow beer with an alcohol content of 13,9% alc/vol to be sold in stores. Currently, beer with an alcohol content of 6% or lower are the only ones allowed to be sold.

Fargo Mayor said he will buy everyone a beer for all the sandbagging the residents had to do to prevent rising flood waters from engulfing the city. Dixie brewing company sent 24,000 beers so he wouldn’t have to buy them!

Ubergizmo reported about a tommy-gun beer bong. Apparently it can hold 22oz of beer and, as the name suggests, it looks like a tommy-gun from the 1920s gangster era.

A Dallas tv stations reported that domestic beer sales are up. With the recent economic problems, Miller and Bud sales are up and importred beer sales are slowly sinking.

Thursday, May 7th is National Homebrew Day! This warms us up for American Craft Brew week which starts on May 11th and goes through the 17th.

Governor Doyle of Wisconsin still opposes the beer tax increase. Currently, Wisconsin has one of the lowest beer taxes in the country. He claims a tax increase would hurt Winconsin’s economy.

Modelo Especial recorded two figure growth rates last year. This year Modelo will launch a new ad campaign which will involve wired.com and style.com. They are targeting new Hispanic and General markets.

The last time Wisconsin’s beer taxes were raised Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. Rep. Terese Berceau is asking for for an increase of $8 per barrel, from $2 to $10. She claims that Wisconsin has a drinking problem and this would solve it.

The U.S. beer market is holding up well despite this economic crisis. Chief Executive Carlos Brito of AB InBev said that not only are U.S. beers doing just fine but imported beer as well.

On the flip, British beer drinkers seem to be slowing down. Or at least they are staying out of pubs, British pubs reported a 8.2% decrease in beer sales during the first 3 months of this year.
